Kaspersky: Microsoft Not Locking Rivals Out of Vista Security

Microsoft, the world’s leading producer of software, is not attempting to block rivals in the computer security space from access to the core, or “kernel,” of its upcoming Windows Vista operating system (OS) to make it difficult for them to tailor their products to the OS, Russian computer security firm Kaspersky Lab said Friday, Reuters reports via WashingtonPost.com.

Further antipiracy measures for Vista

Microsoft will introduce a system for fighting software piracy with its upcoming Windows Vista and Windows Longhorn Server operating systems, the company said today.

Called the Microsoft Software Protection Platform, it's a collection of technologies that aims to do better at detecting pirated versions of Windows, and will also force unauthorised versions of its software into a limited-functionality mode, encouraging users to obtain a legal copy.
