Hacker Pleads Guilty to Spreading Trojan Horse

Richard C. Honour has pleaded guilty to writing and distributing a Trojan horse designed to steal usernames and passwords from computer users. Honour faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 after admitting releasing malware that infected users of DarkMyst, an IRC chatroom popular with players of online role-playing games.

Google Plugs Desktop Hole but Risks Remain

Google patched a security hole in Google Desktop, but security software vendor Watchfire claims that the popular application's mix of Web and private hard drive searches might still be risky. A savvy hacker could surreptitiously achieve "not only remote, persistent access to sensitive data, but full system control as well," warned Watchfire.
